I always had ranch dressing on hand before I started my healthier eating lifestyle. But since then, I’ve kind of outlawed it in my house because the kids would drown everything from veggies to pasta in it. I couldn’t handle it, so we just took it off of the grocery list and never added it back in. I mean, look at the artificial yuckiness and MSG that’s in the packaged stuff…

But, from time to time, there is a recipe or food that just goes better with a creamy ranch type dressing and I’ve finally found one that I’m ok with having.

I found this recipe on the Fixate Cooking Show  and LOVED it!! I have altered it a bit from the original recipe, but it’s very similar.

Even my son who’s in college approves of it and he was the ranch “junkie” of the house!

Homemade Ranch Dressing, the healthy version

This low-fat, high-protein dip is the perfect snack for your next party or tailgate. Why not give it a try as a healthier option for the upcoming Super Bowl party!
Ingredients
  • 1 C cashews
  • 1 C water
  • 2 Tbsp 2% plain Greek yogurt (I use Fage)
  • 2 Tbsp chives (fresh is best, but I use dried)
  • 1 Tbsp dill (fresh is best)
  • 2 Tbsp chopped onion (I use sweet onions)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • ¼ tsp sea salt (or Himalayan salt)
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 dash smoked paprika
Instructions
  1. Soak cashews in water for 2 hours
  2. Drain cashews and place them along with all other ingredients in a food processor (or blender)
  3. Pulse for 1-2 minutes or until smooth and creamy

**NOTE if you don’t want the cashews, you can add in more yogurt to make it more dressing like.

This really is a great recipe and you can totally play around with it a little. Add a bit more yogurt if you want to. Serve it with your favorite veggies to dip!
